GrainGrowers supports the need for a commonwealth strategy for drought preparedness and resilience (as outlined in the Taskforce consultation paper February 2019), and recommends an additional priority area called “Enhance regional Australia” which fast-tracks infrastructure investment, especially in times of drought. The strategy should also include:
- changes to farm management deposits to allow inter-generational transfers and use of FMDs by companies and trusts, and
- a temporary tax incentive for multi-peril crop insurance for a period of five years.
