GrainGrowers' Position

Australian grain farming businesses operate in a highly volatile environment, being exposed to both production and pricing risks. To continue to be effective and globally competitive grain producers, the risk management measures, and government policies need to encourage the resilience of farming businesses and help growers manage the fluctuations in farming income.

GrainGrowers believes that Farm Management Deposit (FMD) Scheme is one of a suite of measures that growers should have access to manage risks associated with climate change and market fluctuations. GrainGrowers believes that FMDs are an effective tool that require some adjustments to ensure they reflect the realities of farming practices and business structures.
