GrainGrowers has joined with Safework SA to promote on-farm safety, releasing a new video featuring members Matthew and Denika Koch from Koch farming at Stockport in the mid-north of South Australia.

The video stresses the importance of communication about on-farm hazards, taking into account the views of employers and employees alike.

Identifying and evaluating hazards, combined with appropriate training and recording of information, are some of the keys to on-farm safety, isolating issues and ensuring all possible steps are taken to keep people as safe as possible.

According to the video, farm safety does not have to be overwhelming or a massive list of policies and procedures. Still, it does require looking at the farm business and drawing out straightforward improvements to improve farm health and safety.

While growers know their own business best, the video encourages contacting Safework SA or GrainGrowers to assist with relevant resources that apply to their farming situation.

The biggest driver for any farm is protecting workers and ensuring everyone gets home safely.

Growers can view the video on GrainGrowers website. The website also provides access to a range of industry-specific resources covering general farm machinery, vehicles, motorbikes and quad bikes, grain harvest and general farm safety. There is a comprehensive workbook with interactive checklists and a series of farm safety videos presented by respected industry specialists.
