Growers looking to build skills to contribute to industry boards and committees are encouraged to apply to participate in the GrainGrowers Onboard program.

The OnBoard program, which has operated since 2021, provides a unique leadership and professional development opportunity designed specifically for grain growers.

Applications, which can be made through the GrainGrowers website, open on 6 January and close on 10 February 2025.

GrainGrowers CEO Shona Gawel said the program was designed to equip an ever-expanding group of growers with the skills and experience to play more active roles outside their farming operations.

“Over the years, we have seen participants apply their newly gained expertise and step forward to take up a wide range of Board and committee positions.”

“I would encourage any grower who has ever considered active involvement in wider industry-based roles, to put themselves forward for this professional development opportunity,” she said.

The OnBoard program offers an immersive in-person experience, integrating hard and soft skills training delivered by expert facilitators. The course provides full funding for participants to complete governance training through the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD).

In 2025, Onboard participants have the choice of one of two streams of governance training courses administered by the AICD:

  1. AICD Company Director’s Course – an in-depth course providing a comprehensive understanding of the requirements needed to be an effective director for not-for-profits and other industries.
  2. AICD Governance Foundations for Not-for-Profit Directors – a shorter course focused on directorship for not-for-profits.

Further details about the OnBoard program, including how to apply and previous industry participants who have taken part, can be found at graingrowers.com.au.
