Hi everyone, I’m George Clark from Bungunya Queensland. We grow wheat, chickpeas and sorghum in a five-year rotation; we’ll put in a cover crop if we think it’s needed and depending on weed burden in that field. We also run 500 head of ewes selling into the lamb market.
Each year we get on average 550ml and this year, the season is going well; we are about to get harvest underway. It’s looking like we will be above average so fingers crossed the weather does its part and we can get it off without too many delays.
I think some of the biggest challenges that were facing in this area is telecommunication. As autonomy becomes a more viable option, the ability to communicate with the machine is very challenging without the right telecommunications in the area. The other challenge we’re facing is the shortage in labour at the moment, especially as you get further away from local schools and the nearest town.
I’m proud to be an Aussie grain grower mostly because I’m proud about having the opportunity to be involved in an industry that is always innovating. Being able to adopt some of the technology and practises we are seeing is exciting
