GrainGrowers’ OnBoard grower director program has opened for 2022 applications. The program, an industry-first initiative enables growers to further develop skillsets necessary for a modern boardroom. The program is intended to ensure there is greater representation in boardrooms and committees across Australia of growers whose unique skills and experience in the paddock, would also be valuable in these settings.

“There are growers running incredibly innovative and progressive enterprises. These astute business skills would be invaluable in boardroom discussions and the OnBoard program has been created to ensure more growers have the opportunity to do so.” said Brett Hosking, GrainGrowers Chair.

GrainGrowers has worked hard to ensure the OnBoard program is pandemic-proof so 2022 participants can develop their skills in both a face-to-face and virtual learning environment. GrainGrowers offers participants the opportunity to work with facilitators who have extensive governance and board experience. The program also covers the cost for participants to complete the Australian Institute of Company Directors’ prestigious Company Directors Program.

“The first group of growers who took part in the inaugural program gave us terrific feedback about how valuable it was. We’re encouraging growers from across Australia with diverse backgrounds to apply for 2022 for their professional development.” said Hosking.

GrainGrowers also covers parental and carers responsibility costs for participants while attending the GrainGrowers sessions. “We wanted to ensure that there are as few barriers as possible for growers who have to take precious time off the farm to take part,” said Hosking. “If ensuring childcare or carers responsibilities costs are covered enables someone who might not otherwise been able to consider applying, that is a win for us!”.

Further details about the OnBoard program including how to apply can be found at graingrowers.com.au. Applications close 7 February 2022.
