GrainGrowers is looking for 10 grains participants keen to take part in the Australian Grain Leaders Program - a bespoke year-long program for emerging industry leaders.

The program provides professional development training, equipping participants with the skills required to help drive the industry’s future development.

Now in its eighteenth year a total of 148 people have completed the program – New South Wales 45, Western Australia 35, South Australia 27, Victoria 22, Queensland 15, Tasmania 3 and Australian Capital Territory 1.

GrainGrowers CEO Shona Gawel said since its inception the program had successfully tapped into the enthusiasm and passion of emerging leaders across the grains industry.

“It has been fantastic to see the journeys our alumni have taken. On the farm, in their communities, in so many different fields of endeavour. The strength of the AGLP program however is what participants recognise within themselves throughout the program.”

“We are now looking for the next group of participants, and if you are keen to invest in yourself, I would encourage you to step forward and apply,” she said.

The course is highly customised and includes face-to-face group workshops, field visits, coaching sessions, training and integration with industry participants and events.

Participants will be challenged to learn about leadership, about themselves and about others, applying the knowledge and skills they develop in an individual project of their own making based on real enterprise or industry issues.

GrainGrowers covers participants’ costs, including travel and accommodation expenses.

“I hope growers and grains industry participants consider the opportunity and reach out to the GrainGrowers team if they would like to find out more. Our AGLP program is also facilitated by RuralScope, whose reputation is so strong for leadership development in agriculture.” Ms Gawel said.

Applications for the program close on 29 August 2025. An online information session will be held at 1.30pm (AEST) on Friday 15 August. For further information and to register for this session, visit the GrainGrowers website.

"I loved every single minute of AGLP. I was studying & working full-time, but you make time. It was invaluable. It helped me believe in myself and gave me many techniques to be a better person. I still stay in contact with my group."

Agriculture is one of those amazing industries where the collaboration you are able to partake in is of such a high quality. AGLP has given me the opportunity to have a bit of self-belief and understand that you are on your own pathway and that pathway is just as important as everybody else's. If you put yourself out there, people will more than often get behind you.

James Russell (2024 Lilliput, VIC)

It's really united us [as a cohort] to know you're not alone when you're struggling with a leadership issue and there are other people around the country who are trying to do the same and are really willing to help out and lift each other up.

Renae Piggott (2024 Bindoon, WA)

The biggest thing I think I'll take away is confidence, networking, the people I've met... It's been a game changer.
