GrainGrowers has welcomed the re-appointment of Julie Collins as the Federal Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.

Chair, Rhys Turton said GrainGrowers looked forward to maintaining a strong working relationship with Minister Collins.

"As an apolitical representative organisation, our approach is always to engage with government constructively to help build stronger grain regions and bridge the gap between urban centres and the bush."

"While our sector faces challenges, we would encourage the Minister to embrace the opportunity to implement sensible policies that can drive positive change and make a real difference in regional Australia."

Mr Turton said the grains industry plays a vital role in the national economy, with 22,500 grain farm businesses contributing $33 billion to the Australian economy and supporting hundreds of thousands of jobs in Australian regions and cities.

"At an industry level, the challenges of rising operational and input costs continue to impact our long-term financial viability. At a political and government level, we need to convince policymakers that the correct strategic settings, combined with appropriate government investment, can enhance our productivity, drive economic growth and help build a sustainable future."

"Prosperous regions can help lead our national economy, and the Minister has an exciting opportunity to build a long-term legacy in partnership with rural Australia."

Mr Turton said GrainGrowers remained committed to working collaboratively with the Minister, the government and decision-makers.
