GrainGrowers has celebrated the International Day of Rural Women (IDRW) with a special lunch event at Port Broughton to celebrate the contribution made by rural women in Australian agriculture.

The event reinforced this year’s IDRW theme of 'Rural women cultivating good food for all', with a particular focus on sustainability and how growers are addressing carbon decisions at a farm level.

GrainGrowers CEO Shona Gawel said the event, mixing networking with professional development, aligned with GrainGrowers' strong track record of encouraging diversity, equity and inclusion.

"Across the grains industry, women make a substantial contribution, and it is good to celebrate and continually encourage strong participation in the wider rural sector.”

“GrainGrowers loves the opportunity to bring women together through regional events like this."

A highlight of the event was a Carbon Conversation keynote session by GrainGrowers' General Manager Major Projects, Sarah Hyland. Attendees also received a printed copy of GrainGrowers’ latest ‘Carbon Calculators Compared Report’ to take back to farm.

The event built on the strong interest generated by GrainGrowers' Carbon Curious Grower Dinners held recently in regional centres across Australia. They provided another opportunity for local industry participants to learn more and assist in making business decisions around sustainability for their farm.

Quotable Quote for IDRW

Life on the land is a lifestyle that can’t be matched. For me, it’s about watching my two young boys grow up with dirt between their toes and spending countless hours on the tractor with their dad, eagerly waiting for the day they can drive it themselves.

Women in agriculture are as strong as nails and work as hard as an ox. I feel privileged to be part of an industry that is always striving to improve and offer endless opportunities for growth.
