What do a pair of rugged hands inspecting barley, the symmetry of harvesting and the uncomplicated mateship of farmers and their dogs all have in common? The three subjects were covered by the winners in the GrainGrowers annual Calendar Competition announced today.
Winners of the competition are:
- First place winner: Alisha Campbell (Toobeah, QLD) – ‘The barley is ready’
- Second place winner: Charlotte Peakall (Amelup, WA) – ‘Swathing in Western Australia’
- Third place winner: Matt Whitfield (Ajana, WA) – ‘Mick… the crop inspector’
- People’s Choice Award: Chelsea Gordon (Colinroobie, NSW) – ‘Golden hour over the lupins’
Independent judges selected the three winners from many high-quality entries highlighting Australia's rich tapestry of industry activities.
The winning photo was praised for its crafted colour palette and interesting subject matter, creating an emotive image with a strong storyline.
The Top 12 photos will be featured in the 2025 GrainGrowers Calendar, and all GrainGrowers member households will receive a copy.
GrainGrowers' CEO Shona Gawel said the annual competition highlights the behind-the-scenes work of growers and the raw and rugged beauty of Australian agriculture.
"The Calendar Competition has been running for many years, and our professional judge always finds choosing the winners tough."
"The entries we received this year illustrate the changing landscape across grain farming regions and the hard work and enterprise that goes into producing high-quality food for Australian and international consumers," Ms Gawel said.
