GrainGrowers congratulates NSW grower and National Policy Group Northern Region representative Kate Gunn and the Davidson family for their recent The Weekly Times Coles 2021 “Cropping Farmer of the Year” award.
Kate runs the Merrivale Partnership farming business with her family at Liverpool Plains. Merrivale is a progressive farming business, comprising of broadacre rain fed winter and summer crops, grain handling, storage and logistics operations, as well as a beef cattle operation. The farm grows around 5000 hectares of wheat and barley and 1550 hectares of sorghum and is active in local research work.
For the past three years Kate has served as an elected member of GrainGrowers National Policy Group, helping to guide policy and advocacy efforts for a more sustainable and profitable national grains industry. Kate is also an alumnus of GrainGrowers’ OnBoard program which equips growers to take up board positions.
“It’s growers like Kate and the Davidson family who help drive Australia’s progress towards 2030 agriculture goals,” said GrainGrowers Chair & Victorian farmer Brett Hosking. “Congratulations to Kate and her family, this award is really well deserved. GrainGrowers is so proud to have growers like Kate a part of our National Policy Group, informing the work that we do to help ensure businesses like Merrivale have the settings right for their enterprises.”
