Grower dinners in Gunnedah (1 April) and Junee (3 April) will provide the opportunity to learn more about the ABC of ESG as the grains industry comes to terms with evolving sustainability reporting requirements.

Hosted by GrainGrowers, the dinners have been designed to cover various key topics arising from the focus on Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) reporting, including climate-related financial disclosure requirements that commenced on 1 January 2025.

GrainGrowers CEO Shona Gawel said these dinners were intended to assist growers with information to navigate the process.

“Under new mandatory requirements, GrainGrowers advocates for reporting processes to be streamlined and valuable for growers. At the same time, it is important for growers to know that their on-farm emissions will need to be included by supply chain partners as part of Scope 3 emissions disclosures.”

“The dinners are all about starting a wider conversation about what is happening, and the initiatives being undertaken by GrainGrowers to support growers.”

Ms Gawel said the dinners were a timely opportunity to learn more, understand the implications and find out some practical ways to be fully prepared and up to date.

Ms Gawel explained the presentations would cover a range of fundamental sustainability reporting topics with a focus on climate-related financial disclosure.

Ms Gawel said GrainGrowers was advocating strongly for the simplification and standardisation of methodologies used in the reporting process.

“In addition to making submissions to key Commonwealth departments, we have also flagged with the government the lack of Australian-specific guidance for agriculture and the low readiness of auditors and supply chain partners.”

“Our objective is to ensure that the reporting process is simple to undertake, accurately represents industry and does not impose an undue administrative burden,” she said.
