GrainGrowers and Achmea Australia recognised the contribution of women in the grains sector at the 2022 International Women’s Day Luncheon in Wagga Wagga.

Nearly 60 guests attended the lunch at Food I Am to celebrate the achievements of women who have challenged and grown the Australian grains industry.

Guest speakers Amelia Shaw, GrainGrowers Policy Manager Rural Affairs and Emma Thomas, Achmea Australia CEO were able to share their experience of working in agriculture as well as some insights around the global theme “break the bias.”

“For International Women’s Day 2022, I issued the challenge to look internally at who we automatically assume is suitable for a leadership role in agriculture,” said Amelia. She encouraged more women to step into agriculture leadership roles and to keep changing perceptions for future generations.

Emma honoured those who are trailblazers, demonstrated her support for women who face challenges both locally and overseas, and encouraged women of all generations to fulfil their potential.

“For our generation and those that are still to come, the seeds we sow and the contribution we make today, will one day grow into a harvest that we will all reap the rewards from,” said Emma.
